Safety
The police visit school to talk to the children about road safety, accident prevention and the dangers of speaking to strangers
The fire service also visits school to talk about fire safety and other aspects of their work.
Fire Drills
There are fire drills at regular intervals and records kept of how long it takes to vacate the buildings.
Staff
Any member of staff who works at St Peter’s is police checked before they start.
In addition, any parent or guardian who helps in school or accompanies the children on educational visits is also police checked.
Child Protection
Schools are particularly well placed to observe changes in behaviour, failure to develop or outward signs of abuse. As part of the local Child Protection Procedures, if a member of staff has concerns about a child, the school is required, to report their concerns to the Social Services Department immediately.
Educational & Residential Visits
A full Risk Assessment is always completed prior to any excursion and must be approved by the Head teacher and Governing body before the proposed date.
School Premises
The Head teacher, Health & Safely Governor and Caretaker carry out Risk Assessments and a Health & Safety Inspection each term.
Security
We have in recent years invested much time, energy and money to limit possible risks to pupils, staff and property.
A high security fence now encompasses the whole school campus, and CCTV systems monitor the site. both are proving to be an invaluable tool to controlling damage to the school property.
The NURSERY, which is a separate building, is independently fenced off and has it's own electronically controlled door.
Access to PRIMARY SCHOOL is via the main Reception entrance, which controls entry to the rest of the main school building via an electronic door lock.
ANY PARENT WISHING TO SEE A CLASS TEACHER OR THE HEAD MUST REPORT TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE FIRST - NO PARENT SHOULD ENTER THE SCHOOL BY ANY OTHER DOOR.
